Design Manager

We are constantly on a mission to add smart, innovative and fun loving team members, and are looking for a Designer Manager to come join our New York based headquarters.

We are seeking a strong designer with the ability to manage, organize and lead a team. Reporting into Merchandising, this person will help develop trend appropriate, functional underwear and loungewear collections for the Tommy John brand. The ideal candidate for this role is organized and able to manage timelines and calendar, detail oriented with the ability to conceptualize solution offering, functional product that is inspired by the Tommy John “Man of Substance”, and experienced in leading a team and advising on best practice.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Merchandising to create short-term & long-term design strategies
  • Manage Design team to capture broad vision and seasonal strategy in product design
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Production & Technical Design to achieve product execution and maintain design integrity
  • Create & complete accurate tech packs for development
  • Design and develop seasonal launches, and all carry over styles and colors by delivery
  • Collaborate with Product Development team on communication to factories
  • Attend and contribute to bi-weekly fittings; approve design intent, fit, fabric, lab dip and trim standards
  • Serve as point person for all underwear and loungewear design issues
  • Research trends and competitive landscape to ideate new concept presentations

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field; Master’s and/or additional certifications, a plus
  • 5+ years of design experience; intimates + loungewear experience a plus
  • 3+ years of experience in a managing/supervising capacity
  • Knowledge of garment construction, textiles, patterns and fit
  • Understanding of the Tommy John brand & “The Man of Substance”
  • Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills
  • Problem solver with keen attention to detail
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Suite and creative software including, Illustrator, Photoshop, and PLM/RLM
