Technical Designer

We are constantly on a mission to add smart, innovative and fun loving team members, and are looking for a Technical Designer to come join our New York based headquarters.

As a Technical Designer at Tommy John you will be responsible for supporting the design process and ensuring that innovative concepts are executed through commercialization and bulk production. You will work closely with the tech design and design teams to coordinate sampling timelines and new product launch calendars. This position requires a highly detailed individual with great organizational strength, excellent analytical and cross-functional communication skills, as well as a strong desire to follow garment creation from beginning to end.



  • Sketch detailed sketches using Adobe Illustrator
  • Create tech pack including detail sketches with construction/stitching and initial specs from proper fit block while adjusting to specific design
  • Maintain all technical aspects of the tech pack such as fit evaluation comments and updated constructions/specs/tolerances/grading
  • Measure and evaluate garments from proto sample through TOP
  • Execute fittings and take detailed and accurate notes and fit comments, including sketches, spec updates, pattern corrections to provide to vendors
  • Create and maintain libraries of approved samples, construction, specs, block patterns, and style patterns
  • Partner with cross functional teams and vendors to conduct quality analysis of products, and presents ideas and solutions
  • Manage vendor communication and tracking to meet fit approval dates and ensure timely delivery



  • Bachelor's Degree in Pattern-making or Technical Design
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical design experience in apparel industry; Men’s and Women's underwear, intimates, loungewear, or activewear experience a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite
  • Working knowledge in Optitex, Gerber PDS, Lectra
  • Working knowledge of pattern-making and construction
  • Excellent analytical skills, detail oriented, highly organized, quick and timely
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage time and work flow in order to meet deadline demands
  • Ability to work in a team environment
